What we do at diving camp!
At the beginning of each camp, we will do some icebreakers to acquaint our campers with each other and their coach, we will watch some videos of Olympic Diving for inspiration while we warm up, and we will layout our plan for each day!
Aside from beginning our days in the gym and ending with diving at the pool, each of the days of camp will aim to target a category of dive.
There are five categories of dives on the springboard! Day one will be forward dives, day two will be inward dives, day three will be back dives, day four will be reverse dives, and day five will be twisting dives! We realize that not everyone will be able to hit all five categories at the pool during just one week of camp, and that each individual progresses at their own rate. However our goal is to introduce all of the categories to our campers in a fun and safe environment. This brings us to what we are doing in the gym!
Through the use of our harness and belt systems over our trampoline and indoor diving board, participants will get the opportunity to actively simulate all of the diving they could possibly do at the pool. This system is a fun and efficient way of introducing all that diving has to offer from the safety of our indoor diving facility. Our gym is a no bellyflop zone!
Campers will be able to go through the motions repetitively and progressively so that by the time they are at the pool, they will feel more comfortable doing the actual dives on the board.
At the pool, campers will be introduced to basic jumps, line-ups, and skills/drills. Dives will be introduced to campers as they show their readiness based on what was learned at gym and their ability to put skills together.
Our camp is rooted in a lean-by-doing approach. Our gym first, pool second schedule allows for us to literally learn the dives at the pool by means of doing them at the gym!
As a reminder, this is an introduction to springboard diving camp… Participants will be pushed to try new things, but by no means will they be expected to meet all of the camps goals! We prioritize fun and safety above all else.
Every day will conclude with some free time and games! This is summer camp for our kiddos... Structure can only go so far!
At the end of the week, our campers will get the opportunity to see our competitive team do some diving and maybe even dive along side them! Who knows, coach might even get in and do a dive or two… And finally, we will have a little pizza party to wrap things up!
